POSITION SUMMARY
The Boilermaker is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, repair and installation of metal
components and structures to Allied Interest's quality and safety standards. The role works
from engineering drawings and job specifications to cut, shape, weld and finish steel
components across workshop and site-based projects, including stainless steel fabrication — a
specialist niche within the trade — ensuring every job protects margin, upholds safety, and
reflects the firm's standard of precision delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabrication & Welding. Fabricate, weld and assemble metal components using MIG, TIG
and stick (MMA/SMAW) welding processes to relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS
1554) and job specifications, including stainless steel fabrication where required — a
specialist skill set distinct from standard mild steel work.
- Reading & Interpretation. Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld procedure
specifications (WPS) and job cards to determine materials, sequence and method.
- Fitting & Assembly. Cut, shape, drill, grind and fit metal components, including layout
and set-out of fabrications prior to welding.
- Quality. Inspect completed welds and fabrications for compliance with specification
and quality standards; carry out rework where required.
- Plant & Equipment. Operate and maintain welding plant, oxy-acetylene equipment,
hand and power tools in safe working order; report faults promptly.
- WHS & Housekeeping. Work safely at all times, follow WHS procedures and Allied
Interest's toolbox talk requirements, use correct PPE, and maintain a clean, organised
work area.
- Team Contribution. Work cooperatively with fitters, machinists and trade assistants to
meet job schedules, and communicate progress or delays to the Supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
• Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Welder (Certificate III in Engineering —
Fabrication Trade, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience welding with MIG, TIG and stick (MMA) processes.
• Proven, hands-on experience welding and fabricating stainless steel — this is a niche
specialist skill set the role requires, not general exposure alongside mild steel work.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings and weld procedure
specifications.
• Sound knowledge of WHS requirements and safe work practices in a workshop/site
environment.
• Current driver's licence; own hand tools (workshop plant supplied).
• Willingness to travel to site as required for on-site fabrication and installation work.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability and a team-first attitude.
DESIRABLE
• Current welding tickets/certification (e.g. AS 1796 or equivalent structural/pressure
welding qualifications).
• Experience in industrial maintenance or complex project fabrication environments.
• White Card and forklift/EWP licences.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The role is primarily workshop-based with periodic site work. Physical demands include
lifting, standing, and working in confined spaces or at height with appropriate controls.
Standard hours apply, with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines
